A Chinese-American man who sold counterfeit Viagra to the US Food and Drug Administration, known as “Big Pharma”, has been sentenced to 10 months of hard labor and six months of probation.
Chen Zhen, 26, sold counterfeit Viagra at the site of a pharmacy in the western United States, the FDA said Wednesday.

The pills, which are sold under the brand name Cialis, are made of sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient in the brand name Viagra.
Cialis and Viagra belong to different drugs known as phosphodiesterase inhibitors (PDE-5s) and nitrates, which are used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. They are also used in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
In May 2011, the FDA ordered counterfeit Viagra manufacturers to submit a labelling of the active ingredient, sildenafil, which they said was not contained in the counterfeit pills.

Cialis is used to treat erectile dysfunction, and it has been available since the late 1990s. A generic version of Cialis has been in the works for several years, with the FDA warning that it could be dangerous. The warning says that if a person is not using the drug after the expiration of the prescription, they may have an increased risk of experiencing erectile dysfunction.
The agency said that the counterfeit Cialis could contain an ingredient that has been present in the drug before it was approved by the FDA. The FDA said that it had seized 1.3 million counterfeit Cialis pills in 2010. It also said that it was looking into the counterfeit Cialis for sale.
Cialis has not been approved by the FDA for the treatment of PAH. The FDA has warned that people with PAH may experience sexual problems such as impotence or erectile dysfunction.

The drug contains sildenafil citrate, which is in the drug’s original formulation, and may have other active ingredients in it. It may also contain other ingredients that have not been approved by the FDA and may have been added to the drugs that have not been approved by the agency.
The FDA said that it has received reports of people who have been affected by the use of counterfeit drugs. It said that the FDA has received reports of people who are taking medication containing sildenafil citrate and/or tadalafil, a substance used to treat PAH.
